About Logan S.
I have spent the better part of a decade elevating policies to the state and federal level that reverse the harms of racial and economic injustices impacting communities of color. I firmly believe that the people closest to the problem are closest to the solution, yet often possess the fewest resources to effect change. Ensuring historically excluded communities, particularly BIPOC and undocumented immigrants, not only have a seat at the table but lead the conversation is at the forefront of my work philosophy.I found himself drawn to this line of work after working as a Teaching Assistant for Whitman College’s Rhetoric & Incarceration course taught in community with incarcerated men at the Washington State Penitentiary. The firsthand experience of working in a correctional setting, on behalf of incarcerated students, informs much of the policy and reform strategies I now employ. With Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-MA-6), I co-wrote the COVID-19 in Corrections Data Transparency Act, requiring federal, state, and local correctional facilities to report certain data on COVID-19 cases, vaccinations, and outcomes. In 2019 and 2020, I worked in coalition with local, state, and federal justice reform organizations, formerly incarcerated advocates, and Congressional offices to federally reinstate Pell Grant eligibility to incarcerated students which was previously banned after the passage of the 1994 Crime Bill.Prior to joining KMSG, I worked for the Vera Institute of Justice’s Federal Policy team, leading various portfolios including death penalty abolition, prosecutorial reform, appropriations, solitary confinement, and prison education. Logan is Swiss-Canadian, a member of the LGBTQ+ community, a cellist and composer, and calls the Pacific Northwest home.
