I’m a freelance writer, illustrator, and editor primarily for comic books, but I’m experienced in both playwriting and fiction as a writer and in non-comic visual arts. I hold a double major MFA in Creative Writing from Augsburg University in Playwriting and Fiction with experience as a Teaching Assistant in Screenwriting at Metro State University. Before that, I received a BA in Theatre Arts from the University of Minnesota. My years of arts education date back even further as I am an alumni of the Main Street School of Performing Arts High (currently known as the Performance Institute of Minnesota Arts High School). The years of education prepared me for the world of publishing written and visual works. In 2023 I edited and campaigned a crowd sourced anthology of comics "Scott Snyder Presents Tales from the Cloakroom Vol. 2" alongside students in comics writer of repute Scott Snyder’s class hosted on his publishing label’s Substack: “Our Best Jackett”. I also publish monthly on my own Substack "a tentative brokenshoelace". My multi-role as writer, artist, and editor keeps me actively reading and watching new plays, comics, film, television, journals, and to be in constant critical review both for edification of the craft and in engaging with the discourse community of fellow professionals. In October 2024 I will table at my first comic book convention with my own publication label "brokenshoelaceart" at Minnesota Comic Book Association’s “Fallcon”.Outside of this I’m also an experienced Telecommunicator with Optum as part of their Outreach Operations for yearly medical record audits. Theatre training prepared me well for thorough communication with prospective and ongoing clients of various positions I’ve held whether in guiding a tour of facilities for a dance ensemble to reserve studio space as the Facilities Supervisor at the Performing Institute of Minnesota Arts High School, serving someone’s morning coffee just right as the Team Lead of a Caribou Coffee, or helping a college student find the apartment right for them as a Leasing Agent with American Campus Communities at their Grandmarc Seven Corners location in Minneapolis. It’s important to give a customer or business partner the information they need in a way that helps them get what they want as to maintain a healthy relationship, especially in sensitive areas where information security is critical, be it medical records or someone’s lease.I believe I would be a great addition to your team either as a creative contributor or business representative and look forward to working with you.
