Profile bio

About Long Phan

Formerly a researcher in Professor Alon Gorodetsky's group for Biomolecular Electronics studying the perfected color-changing systems of nature for use in broader scientific applications. Particularly, optically active reflective protein/bio-polymer coatings inspired by cephalopods for use in camouflage (optical and IR) technology, smart tech-integrated wearables, Green thin films, neural stem cell growth, as well as proton-conducting protein films for use as organic transistors. Professional, flexible, and focused with strong analytical skills and proven ability to lead business-driven interdisciplinary teams converting research to consumer-facing products. Biological aspect of research involved DNA miniprep, cell culture, protein expression via BL21(DE3) E.coli, characterization using SDS-PAGE, tryptic digestion and tandem mass spec, UV-Vis absorbance, fluorescence, circular dichroism (CD), dynamic light scattering (DLS), and purification via immobilized metal-ion affinity chromatography (IMAC) and high pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC). Materials science aspect of research involved biofilm characterization via optical microscopy, UV-Vis-NIR reflectance (integrating sphere), atomic force microscopy (AFM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with focused ion beam (FIB) milling, surface metrology, DC measurements on 2 and 3 terminal organic devices, semiconductor parameter analysis, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy.Employed use of class 1000 clean room facility to perform molecular vapor deposition, nanoimprint lithography (NIL), thermal and electron beam evaporation, and photolithography to produce devices for further bio/nanotech experiments.

Listed skills include Materials Science, Characterization, Photolithography, Scanning Electron Microscopy, and 36 others.
