About Lonneke Scheffer
I use computational methods including machine learning to improve our understanding of the adaptive immune system, for example by predicting antigen binding or disease status. Much of my work is integrated with the machine learning ecosystem immuneML (https://immuneml.uio.no).Updated overview of my publications: https://orcid.org/0000-0001-8900-075X

Senior Software Engineer
In this role I continue the development of the machine learning platform immuneML.
Phd Computational Immunology
During my PhD I developed computational tools for the machine learning-based analysis of adaptive immune receptor repertoires, including immuneML and CompAIRR.My thesis can be found here: https://www.duo.uio.no/handle/10852/107194
Visiting Phd Student
As part of the SUURPh PhD programme I visited the La Jolla Institute for Immunology.
Board Member
Spire is a youth organization working for a just and sustainable distribution of the world’s resources. We aim to examine the big connections that create injustice. Therefore, we focus on the environment, food safety and international trade. Spire influences politicians in Norway and internationally to create change. We are the Development Fund's youth organization. Spire Oslo is the local chapter of Spire, and we work mostly on organizing projects and events for youth in Oslo.
Leader
The leader of Spire Oslo is the final responsible of steering the local chapter towards a common goal. A big part of this is ensuring certain events or other kinds of activities are planned. The leader does not do all the work, but instead delegates the responsibilities to other people in the local chapter. The leader has an overview of what is going on, and gives people the opportunity to contribute and be an active part of the group. He or she should identify tasks, delegate them, and follow up to see if things went as planned. Together with the rest of the board members, the leader assures the well being of the members of the local chapter.
Project Manager
As the Project Manager I am the main responsible for keeping the projects ‘on track’, meaning the different components that are being added are realistic and relevant for the goal of the project.I help out with the planning of the projects, by identifying what is needed (like people giving presentations, or resources) and making sure these things are gathered in time. During the execution of an event I keep an eye on the time, and, in consultation with the other board members, identify and delegate tasks.
Bioinformatics Intern
During this internship I worked on developing new tools for the GenomicHyperBrowser, which is a web-based system for analyzing genomic data. In the BMIgroup there is an ongoing research project to develop new randomization strategiesfor (epi)genomic data, and I developed one new permutation approach which I thenused on real data.
Bioinformatics Intern
The aim of this project was to find the most appropriate computational pipeline for modelling the structural changes in closely related proteins. In this case specifically, the OMP2 proteins of Brucella melitensis and abortus isolates. To investigate this, several methods for data preprocessing, assembly and protein structure prediction have been compared.
Cashier
My main tasks are operating the cash register and helping the customers by giving advice about the organic products we sell.
Teaching Assistant
Providing help to the first year bioinformatics students during the theme assignments 1 and 2, and tutoring the students in various subjects (biology, chemistry, informatics).
Ambassador Of Technology
Giving presentations and interactive lessons to high school students (approximately 12 to 14 years old), about studying and working in the field of technology.
