Lorelie S. Masters, a partner in Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP’s Insurance Recovery Practice Group, has more than 30 years of experience representing policyholders in insurance coverage counseling and litigation. She is co-author of two treatises on insurance coverage issues: (i) Insurance Coverage Litigation, published in its second edition in January 2000 and updated yearly; and (ii) Liability Insurance in International Arbitration: The Bermuda Form, awarded the 2012 Book Prize of the British Insurance Law Association. She served on the American Bar Association’s Board of Governors and is a past Policyholder Chair of the Insurance Coverage Litigation Committee of the ABA Section of Litigation. Lorie served as President of the Women’s Bar Association of the District of Columbia from 2007-2008, on the ABA Commission on Women in the Profession from 2009-2012, and the ABA Gender Equity Task Force from 2012-2014. She served as Adviser for the American Law Institute’s Restatement of the Law, Liability Insurance from 2010 until its final approval in May 2018. She served as trial counsel for policyholder Hoechst Celanese Corporation in its trial enforcing general liability insurance coverage. The National Law Journal called the jury’s verdict for Hoechst Celanese one of the “most significant jury verdicts of 1997.” She has lectured and written extensively on products liability, directors’ and officers’, property and business interruption insurance, and technology and e-commerce issues. She has also handled many other matters in litigation, arbitration, and settlement negotiations, recovering millions of dollars for her clients.
