My name is Lorena Martinez, and I am a current student at UCI, pursuing a degree in Chemical Engineering and a specialization in Energy and Sustainability. My ultimate goal as an aspiring engineer is to apply the knowledge and skills I have acquired to solve real-world problems in the industry. UCI has provided me with numerous opportunities to gain hands-on experience, technical and soft skills, and develop my leadership and organizational abilities.I currently serve as the Secretary for the Society of Women Engineers, where I actively promote SWE's values and inspire young women to pursue careers in STEM. Previously, I held the position of Outreach Co-Chair for 2023-2024, connecting with K-12 students and new UCI students to encourage their interest in STEM. Additionally, I work at UCI's Student Center and Event Services, assisting in managing and setting up large-scale events.I also participate in UCI's ChemE Car, which is affiliated with the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE). Together, we work on building a miniature car that runs on chemical reactions, a fascinating project that has allowed me to apply my engineering skills and knowledge. Additionally I am employed at UCI's Industrial Assessment Center working as an Energy Efficiency Engineer preforming energy audits to small to medium sized companies to help promote energy efficiency/ sustainability.In my free time, I enjoy exploring the great outdoors, playing tennis, and spending quality time with my family and friends.
