I am a biochemistry student at the University of North Texas with a pre-med focus. I have been interested in medicine since receiving a children's medical encyclopedia as a child and falling in love with learning how the human body works as well as discovering the realm of "squishy science".I chose biochemistry as my major after taking AP Chemistry in high school and realizing the satisfaction that came with applying my understanding of the subject to real life and medicine. I competed in the National Chemistry Olympiad as a high school sophomore and made it to the state level of competition which only furthered my love for the subject. I was a founding member of the Jenks High School Science Olympiad Team and eventually our team's Project Manager. As a part of this team I competed in the Anatomy & Physiology, Forensics, Chemistry Lab, Protein Modeling, and Cell Biology events, securing a State Champion title in Chemistry Lab two years consecutively as well as in Anatomy & Physiology and Forensics. I was responsible for organizing all study and build materials for events as well as communicating with team members to ensure they were working and progressing in preparation for competitions.I was enrolled in the AP Capstone program at my high school during junior and senior year and gained valuable research and presentation experience. My senior research project was entitled "The Correlation of Food Avoidance with Dietary Preferences and Lifestyle Choices After Treatment for Oral Hypersensitivity" and focused on promoting oral immunotherapy for younger pediatric patients.Currently I am employed as a medical scribe stationed at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital. I am experienced with using electronic medical records, charting, and medical terminology as well as navigating the work flow in the emergency department of hospitals.
