I am an Assistant Professor of Latinx Rhetoric & Composition at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB), where I teach, write, and research in the fields of English, Art History, and Chicano and Latino Studies. I have over 23 years of experience in higher education and curriculum development. I hold a PhD in English Rhetoric from UC Irvine and multiple degrees in Art History, English-Creative Writing, and Anthropology. My academic and professional mission is to explore and articulate the rhetorical, cultural, and historical dimensions of Latinx and Chicanx identities, experiences, and expressions. I am the author of The Wound and the Stitch: A Genealogy of the Female Body from Medieval Iberia to SoCal Chicanx Art, which will be published by Pennsylvania State UP in May 2024 as part of the Transdisciplinary Rhetoric Series that Penn State releases in collaboration with the Rhetoric Society of America. I have also published several journal articles in Rhetoric Review, College Composition and Communication, Composition Studies, and the Journal of Lesbian Studies. The prestigious Cambridge History of Rhetoric will include my chapter on Cultural and Indigenous Rhetorics (Cambridge UP, 2025). I am currently working on my second book, Get Back to Where You Once Belonged: A Chicana-Apache Professor’s Autoethnography on Racial and Rhetorical Belongings.
