CurrentHabitat for Humanity of South Central NJ is on a mission to transform lives in partnership with families in need, and uniting all community members around the cause of affordable housing. Under Leonard’s leadership, Habitat merged with 3 neighboring affiliates over the course of 3 years, including Trenton Habitat, Millstone Basin Habitat and most recently, Atlantic County Habitat to now serve over 1.1 Million residents across 77 municipalities in 4 counties and operates 3 ReStore locations. Since 1987, we have empowered over 278 families to achieve their dreams of safe, affordable home ownership and break the cycle of poverty. Homes are sold at an affordable price with affordable mortgages to local low-income families who contribute up to 400 hours of “sweat equity” toward Habitat projects. Habitat has also improved the quality of life for 152 existing homeowners by providing repairs that restore safety, update efficiency, and integrate accessibility throughout the home. Families working toward homeownership can establish and strengthen their financial stability through the Almost Home Program. The intensive, multi-week program provides financial education, homeowner preparation, and community connections to build their application for the Affordable Homeownership Program. In addition to soliciting public and private donations, capturing the enthusiasm of over 2500 volunteers a year, and utilizing the current housing stock, Habitat also operates 3 ReStores - a retail outlet where donations of furniture, building materials and home decor are resold to the public at a fraction of retail value, and all revenue goes directly into supporting Habitat BMC programs.
