The Military and Family Life Counselor (MFLC) program provides confidential, non-medical counseling services to active and Reserve component members and their families. Non-medical counseling is designed to address issues that occur across the military lifestyle and help service members and their families cope with the normal reactions to the stressful/adverse situations createdby deployments and reintegration. Topics addressed include anger management, stress, parenting, family relationships, and deployment adjustment. The approach is psychoeducational, whichhelps participants learn to anticipate and resolve challenges associated with military life. Support is aimed at preventing the development or exacerbation of mental health conditions that may detract from military and family readiness.

Volunteered at Bothell High School with academically at-risk youth in after school program. Facilitated placement of Dream Project at BHS, providing mentoring for college access to first generation students and families.

Met with truant students and parents, provided referral and intervention services as needed, monitored attendance, documented meetings and progress for court process. Participated in Student Intervention Team.

Provided individual, marital, family and group therapy to children, teens and adults. Clients referred from employee assistance programs, insurance companies, medical and education professionals. Used brief solution-oriented, skill building and psycho-educational methods with liberal use of community resources and literature. Frequently collaborated with medical professionals regarding medication management for clients. Annually doubled size of practice over three consecutive years.

Performed clinical outreach to hospitals, facilitated enrollment into mental health services, coordinated discharge planning with hospital staff and located residential placements for mentally ill patients. Provided next day crisis appointments, screened, tiered and referred clients as needed to obtain appropriate mental health services.

Seattle Mental Health Campus: Clinical and intensive case management services provided to diverse clients at clinic, community, medical and school settings. Member of Student Intervention Team at Thurgood Marshall Elementary School, clinically supervised M.A. intern for Seattle University. Developed curriculum and ran grief and loss group for children with caregiver component, presented on stress management and AD/HD issues. Orion Center: Provided case management, crisis intervention, individual and family therapy for homeless teens. Attempted family reunification when possible, provided outreach and community based services utilizing multiple systems, including legal and social services. Participated in study funded by NIMH grant.

Crisis intervention, provided services by phone and outreach to adult clients. Assisted in hospitalization, emergency medication requests, assessed potential for suicide and violence.

Provided case management, individual, group, milieu and family therapy for adolescent boys, including juvenile sex offenders. Provided legal documentation of treatment for youth on probation and court ordered into treatment.Family Reconciliation Services: Independently contracted to provide crisis intervention, individual and family therapy for teens at risk of leaving home. Used solution-focused and behavioral models, communication skill building and community resources in treatment.

Coordinated inaugural Combined Charities Campaign, trained and oversaw 12 department coordinators, raised $72,000 from 2,000 employees. Published annual copy of employee handbook, newsletter with employee suggestions and department head responses, designed and installed informative monthly display windows.
