About Lou Cooper

Are you looking for a multi-disciplinary career scientist, with an array of experience spanning Engineering, Materials Science and Chemistry?Do you want to work with someone who has experience working on collaborative projects in both academic and industrial contexts, alongside others with a wide diversity of backgrounds and specialisms?Hello, I'm Lou - a PhD researcher, with expertise in materials science, electrochemistry, solid-state chemistry and polymer science. My research is primarily focused on novel direct-loop recycling processes for lithium-ion batteries as part of the Faraday Institution ReLiB project, with an emphasis on selective PVDF binder removal using green solvents. I am well-versed in a variety of electrochemical, polymer and crystallographic analysis techniques, including galvanostatic cycling, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, differential scanning calorimetry, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy and x-ray diffraction. My expertise also extends to thermodynamic modelling and high-throughput data analysis in MATLAB and Python.I can effectively communicate science to a wide range of audiences, both technical and non-technical. As a keen career scientist, I delivered a talk at the 2023 Faraday Institution Conference and currently have two pending scientific publications. Through my experience working in a startup environment, I have experience delivering pitches and sat on an expert panel at the 2022 MSDUK Conference.I'm currently investigating internship opportunities and career options for after my PhD both in the UK and worldwide. My key areas of interest are energy generation and storage, material supply chains, the circular economy and sustainability.
