Communication strategy and implementation for Nando’s Art Initiative, sponsors of an eco-system of artist career-development programmes managed by Spier Arts Trust. This role involved: engagement with a variety of stakeholders; strategy, management and implementation of marketing and PR activities including innovative events and multi-media content marketing campaigns. The collaborative conceptualisation and project management of Nando's Hot Young Designer Talent Search a programme to create opportunities for aspirant South African designers. Project Management included planning, deadlines, budgets, marketing material, inspirational events and mentorship of finalists. Awards for Nando’s Art and Design programmes included: Bronze Loerie for Shared Value 2015; Business Arts South Africa award for Increasing Access to the Arts 2015; Loerie Grand Prix for Shared Value 2016; Business Art South Africa Innovation Award 2016; Silver Loerie for Shared Value 2017.

Development Research Uptake in Sub-Saharan Africa (DRUSSA) was a five-year, UK-Aid funded programme supporting 22 Universities across Africa to build ongoing management capacity to get research into use for poverty reduction and improved quality of life in Africa. This role included strategies for diverse communications channels and quality management and strategic alignment of multimedia content delivered by the communications team. It also entailed the development and full control of a five-year communications training programme successfully rolled out to staff from all participating universities, which received an ‘A' rating from the funder. Strategist and Editor-in-Chief of Africa's first cellphone library.South Africa is a "book-poor, mobile phone-rich" society. To see if teenagers there would read stories on their mobile phones, Steve Vosloo, launched the m4Lit (mobiles for literacy) project on MXit. Yoza Cellphone Stories developed from this idea. Launched by the Shuttleworth Foundation, the stories include interactive mobile novels, Shakespeare and other classic authors, all of which can be accessed on a cellphone. As a strategist and 'content director' it was exciting to play a role in this groundbreaking project. The overwhelmingly positive uptake of content on the platform was inspirational. This concept went on to be developed by other organisations, with all content generated now residing on Fundza.mobi.

I began my career in Corporate Communications at Lehman Brothers, London, and on return to South Africa spent almost ten years working in magazine publishing during a period of rapid innovation in media, marketing and communications.
