About Louise Smith

I manage the digital library projects for inclusion in the USC Digital Library. This includes managing the workflow for approximately $25m of grant, government and privately-funded digitization projects. In the last fiscal year I oversaw the creation of over 200k digital assets, and this year we are set to digitize close to a million unique objects.I manage large sets of assets in complex management environments, such as DAM infrastructures and shared cloud servers utilizing Internet2. I utilize data to inform problem-solving and analysis. I have a deep understanding of Digital Asset Management tools and have created best practices rubrics. I manage assets and utilize best practices and processes when identifying long-term asset storage solutions.Spanning a wide range of visual media, the USC Digital Library offers digital images of drawings, illuminated manuscripts, maps, photographs, posters, prints, rare illustrated books, as well as audio and video recordings. Encompassing the subject strengths of the vast collections of the libraries at the University of Southern California, these materials represent the applied sciences, fine and decorative arts, history, performing arts, and social sciences. The USC Digital Library helps fulfill the mission of the USC Libraries to actively support the discovery, creation, and preservation of knowledge and develop collections and services that support and encourage the academic endeavors of faculty, students, and staff.
