As a natural resource consultant, I assist with ecological services required for pre-development due diligence from wetland delineation, tree inventories, and threatened and endangered species consultation and assessments. My specialty in native vegetation management and monitoring allows me to help my clients during the design and post-development phase find the value in creating naturalized communities enhance the overall function of open spaces and stormwater management.

Greater Chicago Area

To understand the relationship between stress and disease, we use non-invasive sampling techniques to collect stress hormone data from local wildlife and zoo collection animals. These samples are analyzed and paired with behavior data. My primary field project is assisting researchers investigating the prevalence of chytrid fungus Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis (Bd) among local amphibian populations in the Chicago region. While swabbing the specimens for fungal spores, we also swab for excreted stress hormones to establish a connection between the presence of the chytrid fungus and stress output.

My primary responsibilities are to assist in laboratory setups and procedures, as well as collect samples in the field that will assess the health and stress levels of urban wildlife.

Dupage County Forest Preserves

The primary focus of this internship was to asses the presence of Smooth Green snakes within DuPage county forest preserves, as well as assist with biologic inventory and telemetry of local small mammals such as the meadow jumping mouse and least weasels. The internship was part of an ongoing project within the Lincoln Park Zoo's Urban Wildlife Institute. Data was collected using a capture-mark-recapture method.

As part of the Undergraduate Research Apprenticeship Program, I assisted members of Dr. Rich King's lab with field research and data analysis examining ecology of three grassland snake species. I used this information to create and present a poster for two conferences.
