Lisa Redmond earned her Master of Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing at Columbia College Chicago. As an award-winning graduate student, she was quickly recruited to teach within the Creative Writing Department at Columbia while completing her degree.She is a master storyteller with a keen eye and ear for story, nuance, voice, tone, and audience, as well as an exceptional gift of knowing what every story needs. She is currently an Editorial Writer in the Office of Communications at Governors State University where her responsibilities include driving and promoting the university’s mission and philosophy of academic excellence, diversity, equity, inclusion, and community engagement to increase the university’s visibility and enrollment. She also writes press releases, feature stories, official statements from the president, and the weekly internal newsletter using AP Style. As Director of Trinity Kids she wrote a new narrative for children’s ministries and children’s programming. Paying a particular interest to community demographics, she created renewed interest, and positively impacted attendance, growth, and participation by making her department both relevant and current. She also acted as the Director of Communications and Content. She created press releases, flyers, emails, newsletters, website and social media content, and other print and electronic communications.While earning her MFA in creative writing, she also developed a specialty in linguistics, with a particular focus on African American English and other dialects around the world. She has published articles on this topic. She has been a Teaching Artist within Columbia's Office of Community Arts Partnerships working with K-12 students. Her students' writing and photography were annually displayed at the Museum of Contemporary Photography. She was a fellow within the Illinois Consortium for Educational Opportunity Program (ICEOP).
