About Louise Richards
I recently returned to the UK, seeking an exciting challenge as I progress from my position as Head of Art at the Winstedt School in Singapore. I am a highly qualified and experienced Special Education Needs and Disabilities (SEND) teacher, with a Masters in Special Education Needs, a National Professional Qualification in Leading Behaviour and Culture (NPQLBC), a PGCE in Secondary Art & Design (with QTS status), and a BA (Hons) Applied Art.I recently completed a post as Head of Art at The Winstedt School, Singapore, a specialist provision where all students learn differently. I worked with students with a variety of complex Social Emotional Mental Health, and SEND needs, and was fortunate enough to be instrumental in establishing policy and best practice to empower learners to succeed. I have an excellent understanding of effective leadership in relation to raising students’ attainment, which has been cemented during the NPQLBC course. Previously, I worked in a combined role as Acting Co-Leader of Art and Photography, and Teacher of Literacy and Dyslexic pupils at Roundhay School in the UK.I have a firm understanding of how opportunities can be provided to enrich and enhance the curriculum to address the needs of all students. As Head of Art at The Winstedt School, I developed a cohesive curriculum that enables progression from early years to graduation, culminating in The Winstedt School Diploma. This includes the development of an assessment criteria for the creative arts, as well as career electives. I designed the Career Studies Electives with career progression in mind, and in collaboration with external education providers, to give students an insight into the options available to them.As a reflective practitioner, I am happy to grasp exciting CPD opportunities. I am keen to achieve a National Award for SEN Coordination Qualification to aid my progression. I have recently undertaken CPD, alongside the Winstedt School leadership team, in the application of Universal Design for Learning (UDL), where I developed further strategies to motivate children and young people to engage with education and overcome barriers to learning, subsequently sharing best practice with academic staff for implementing UDL.
Listed skills include Ceramics, Art And Design, Graphic Communication, Textiles, and 45 others.
