After a long and impassioned career at one of the most respected and innovative NGOs on the European scene, here I am, on the other side of the Atlantic, with a new challenge: to bring music education back to Colorado's public schools.Education Through Music is a national nonprofit network that began operating over 30 years ago in New York, and then expanded to Los Angeles, Boston and Denver. Since its foundation, more than 300,000 students have learned about music, and through it, how to express themselves. Our recent national campaign has been paired with the launch of the animated musical movie Sing 2: we have partnered with the band U2, Illumination, Universal Pictures and Republic Records to raise awareness about the life-changing power of music.Our adventure in Colorado has just begun: we will try to reach as many under-resourced schools as possible, resolute in the belief that music opens children's minds, strengthens self-esteem and encourages multicultural relationships. In short: it makes us better.
