Executive Director
Brussels Area, Belgium
In my role as Executive Director, I was responsible for all ISN activities and programs worldwide. These include:- an extensive range of humanitarian and philanthropic programs, sponsored by ISN-own funds in partnership with a range of organizations, including WHO, and supporting the development of kidney care in low-resource countries. Total yearly investment: $2.5M- a biennial world congress of nephrology, attended by 5000 medical professionals from 120 countries on average. Latest host cities were Vancouver (2011), Hong Kong (2013), Cape Town (2015) and Mexico City (2017). Approximate revenue from the congress is in the range $6M-$4M- one of the top-three medical journals in nephrology, with a turnover of approximately $2.5M/year- a global awareness campaign, World Kidney Day, taking place each year in March- a crowdfunding platform, World Kidney Fund- the relationship with the World Health Organization, as ISN is the only nephrology organization in official relations with WHO- a team of 34, across two offices (Brussels, Belgium and Cranford, NJ, USA).As of November 2016, I was one of the leads in a governance review program for the Society, assisted by consultants from a B-Corp organization, Lighttrail, based in Vancouver, Canada. The review, which was be completed in December 2018, aimed to ensure that ISN is ready to cope with the multiple challenges and opportunities that will be facing a professional society and humanitarian organization in the next 10 years.
