I am a second-year graduate student at The Ohio State University and will be obtaining my Master’s in City and Regional Planning at the Knowlton School. Before moving to Columbus, I spent three years pursuing bachelor’s degrees in Environmental Studies and International Studies with an Environmental Sustainability concentration at the American University as a School of International Service Global Scholar.Previously, I worked in Nairobi, Kenya with Slum Dwellers International as a Physical Planner Intern where I was given the task of collecting data, writing reports, and making maps to raise awareness of environmental issues affecting residents of informal settlements. This was the first time I realized the importance of urban planning and how inextricably tied the built environment is to people’s health and life outcomes. Working with SDI Kenya, I realized that urban planning is the way to find the most practical solutions to the world’s toughest issues that affect many people.
