• Manage the Payroll staff providing management and support to the team, proper tools, materials, guidance and development to engage them to perform their jobs effectively and meet the needs of our internal customers and external customers.• Work with the 53 terminals to be proactive in solving issues, making adjustments and interpreting contractual language with the help of Labor and HR.• Analyze complex pay transactions, identify issues that exist, and work with IT, HR and Operations to assess risk and implement mitigation plans to minimize future occurrence.• Maintain current knowledge of legal regulations, industry trends, and best Payroll practices. Make recommendations to improve processes based on new information.• Annually provide Year-End: W-2’s, SSA, Third-Party Sick Pay, Unused Sick Payout. Any and all issues that will assist with year-end creating the best possible process.

• Supervise the HR staff – Employee status changes; Maintain employee entitlement balances using Lawson & Kronos; Complete verification of employment requests; Process disability claim forms.• Onboard/Offboard temporary employees for the main office and 53 terminal locations – Review resumes and coordinate with temp agencies to place assignments.• Unemployment – Process claims & provide to 3rd Party; Gather evidence, witnesses and represent company in hearings.• Subpoenas – Compile pay information, employee files, work history and provide to Legal department.

• Process weekly payroll for approximately 7,500 employees in over 53 locations utilizing Kronos, FMS & Lawson programs; Run weekly payroll close reports; Input data into appropriate files and distribute to required internal/external parties.• Send wage requests to Sedgwick for employees on an OJI claim; Keep track of all employees on TMW; Enter employee direct deposit and tax withholding forms; Determine employee eligibility for bereavement/jury duty pay; Enter grievance payments submitted by Labor and log.• Monitor and maintain dues deductions for approximately 6,000 union employees; Balance the billings with weekly payroll and submit payment to 40 different Locals monthly.• Send withholding tax payments/returns to Federal/State/Local agencies for approximately 20 states; Complete quarterly unemployment insurance tax filings/returns for 15 states.

* Review job applications using Taleo. Perform background screenings on potential candidates. Ensure completion of file for approval for hire.* Process employee status form changes using Lawson. Complete verification of employment requests. Provide separation information to TALX for unemployment claims.* Train and oversee the work of temporary employees utilized by the department throughout the year.
