In this role I worked in the corporate finance practice group and was able to work on a few due diligence and M&A sell side projects. My tasks included collating financial statements in Excel to produce presentable graphs and charts to the clients and analysing annual reports to understand company performance and business health. I also conducted market research into industries, assessing market factors and trends and evaluating potential bidders. During my time I was able to look into an industry undergoing significant growth and M&A activity and was given the chance to present my findings regarding the industry, M&A factors, recent transactions and potential bidders and targets.

My duties involved conducting research into the Retail Leases Act and relevant cases to respond to a unique variety of retail tenancy and small business dispute enquiries. I would correspond with the parties in dispute to ask for background information and recommend mediation if the dispute remained unresolved. The opportunity to observe mediation sessions helped me gain insight on negotiation tactics and methods of managing client emotions and expectations. Lastly, I took on several miscellaneous duties such as researching into government department survey methods, collecting unpaid mediation fees from clients and suggesting recommendations to the VSBC website.

I worked in the family law division where I was responsible for primarily divorce and parenting matters. I developed strong client communication skills as I was often required to correspond with my clients over the phone and ask background questions during intake sessions. I have drafted letters to respondents and prepared divorce applications, parenting plans and affidavits for court submission. I am able to concisely summarise client interactions in file notes and have maintained strong organisation in administrative matters such as inputting client information into case management systems and sorting documents into their relevant folders.

In this role, I have taught VCE English to over 100, predominantly international, students. As a result of studying English texts, preparing lesson material and grading essays, my work ethic, productivity and organisation skills have greatly improved. In teaching each student, I adapt my approach to suit each student's needs. Whether this be communicating to them in both English and Chinese or talking to them as a friend, both have helped them to become interactive and attentive during class. Seeing them able to achieve their desired scores is greatly rewarding.
