I found that there was little desire or need for a direct marketing tool and recommended against the development of the product. Royal Mail clients were surprised but welcomed the insights and shelved the product, saving themselves millions of pounds.* Dating app for singles and matchmakers (2011)Explored a new concept in social networking, I worked with a startup to shape a product that will be enjoyable (and possibly addictive) to use. Human Factors ResearcherDefence Science And Technology Organisation Nov 2004 - Feb 2005Adelaide, South Australia, AuDuring this research scholarship, I explored the idea of using a head-mounted camera for navigation when soldiers are in the field. I researched the literature around navigation, cognition, and UI design of small wearable objects and came up with a couple of alternative designs. I recruited 24 participants (soldiers) who were experienced in navigation and observed them as they completed a "treasure hunt" activity in the bush. Data capture included time per activity, number of errors, and subjective response to the usability of the system. I then compared the two alternative designs with the traditional map and compass approach. The results showed that the head-mounted display did not perform as well as the traditional method of navigation, but there was potential to integrate the head-mounted display with the physical map as an enhancement to the standard navigation technique.My research was presented at the Land Warfare Conference in 2005. -
