I am currently the hub of a bustling and increasingly popular Food Technology Department in which I manage and direct a second staff member and two part time technician staff. I have also enlisted a large amount of volunteer student helpers including students from all year groups, but on a day to day basis I have a team of willing and inspired Year 12 and 13 pupils. This team is not just made up from Food Technologists, but also 'foodie' enthusiasts and inspired young chefs, some of whom I have never taught a lesson.Food Technology is a challenging Department to run. There are many confines that my team and I haver to overcome. Despite this I have more than quadrupled the GCSE intake and have started a popular new AS course. Within my role as Head of Food Technology, I have had to juggle effective time management, clear face to face and electronic communication, whilst monitoring budgetary control and expenditure, space management, behaviour management, resource production, effective differentiation and stretch within resource production. Performance management for all staff and support staff in my Department, effective and inspirational teaching and learning, risk assessment, extra curricular activities and study support groups.I am a highly inspirational teacher with a track record of both excellent results and hugely increased uptake within all my subject areas.I have a proven track record of excellent GCSE results in both Food Technology and Art Textiles.I am highly professional and I have excellent team building and team management skills. I manage my classroom with a kind but firm hand, I take a no nonsense policy with poor behaviour but I like to do this with a smile on my face and a clear summary of the behaviour I find unacceptable.Specialties: Teaching, Learning Disabilities, Art and Design, Textiles, Clay and Pottery, Food Technology, Secondary Education, Team Building, Team Leadership, Organisational Development, Inspiring People, Inspiring Young people, Food Science, Food Safety, HACCP, Behavior Management, Risk Assessment

Head Of Department Food TechnologyPark House School Newbury Sep 2010 - Aug 2013NewburyAs Head Food Technology for KS3, KS4 and KS5 I provide professional leadership and management of the Food Technology Department to secure high quality teaching and learning, effective use of resources and improved standards of learning and achievement for all my students. I also very much enjoy organising and getting involved with local and National extra curricular events that are taking place to inspire students and educate them about the world outside the classroom. I have set up a link with a local Organic Farm, and together we have run a Cookery School for some vulnerable Year 9 pupils for the last 4 years. The extra curricular learning takes place over six sessions, one per semester and always culminates in a fabulous three course lunch cooked by the students for a group of around 12 invited guests. We have also included a visit to the organic farm, and there the students receive a tour and are educated on both the day to day routines of the farm and the efforts being made to keep the establishment as sustainable and green as possible.I have run several baking competitions in the last few years, open to both students, parents and staff. Most recently I ran a vintage inspired 'Park House Bake Off' at a craft fair based at the school. I have also organised several KS3 & 4 entires to a local seasonal cooking competition, in which Park House School have celebrated considerable success'.In textiles I have run origami crane folding clubs, lunchtime 'sock monster' and "sock monkey' stitching classes, felting classes for handbags and jewellery, quilting and screen printing classes for clothing and interiors and have run several workshops for more interesting, cutting edge materials like dissolvable fabric and free machining.
