Working within a cohesive MDT, within the National Brain Injury Service at St Andrew’s Healthcare. I managed a specialist case load of patients (adults and adolescents) with complex nutritional and psychiatric needs, using evidence based and person centred principles, to assess, plan, implement and evaluate treatment. Key areas of dietetic input: Weight management, Diabetes, Nutrition Support, Dysphagia, Disordered Eating, Enteral Feeding, Hyperlipidaemia, Health Promotion Duties:•Assessment of service users’ nutritional status, using appropriate anthropometric, biochemical and medical records and identify their nutritional needs • Devising core and specialist nutritional treatment plans e.g. diabetes, weight reducing, nutrition support, food intolerance, enteral tube feeding• Ensuring each service user has an individually tailored care plan appropriate to their needs•Using service user centred motivational interviewing techniques and negotiating skills to affect nutritional behaviour change, facilitate acceptance and on going compliance with treatment programs, particularly where there are complex barriers to acceptance• Participation in health promotion activities to convey key messages to service users (and staff)• Development of a weight management service aimed at staff• Communicating with service users, using the most appropriate verbal, written or pictorial method, in a way that respects their view, autonomy and culture• Working collaboratively with all members of the treatment team to share information with the team formally and informally • Attendance and contribution to central hospital steering groups including; Weight management Steering Group, Health Promotion Group, Nutrition and Catering Liaison Group •Advising chefs on preparation of therapeutic diets e.g. dysphagia, allergy•Review and nutritional analysis of divisional menus to ensure they meet nutritional standards, including government outlined School Food Standards
