Lead consultant and author of over a hundred technical reports on a variety of topics related to risk and safety management in design and operation of innovative and safety-critical vessels, marine equipment, offshore installations and port facilities.Significant involvement in design iterations and safety validation of large offshore construction vessels, including pipelay ship and a large heavy lift crane vessel, as well as two offshore substation platforms for a large wind farm. Assisted industry associations and ship owners/operators to assess the impact of new safety legislation, including contribution to the developments of the Polar Code (on behalf of IAATO/CLIA) and assessment of measures to control SOx emissions (on behalf of the Hellenic Chamber of Shipping), among others. Extensive participation in the assessment of alternative design arrangements for passenger ships including large lifeboats, large main vertical fire zones, structural fire protection and innovative life-saving appliances. Involved in the safety assessment of the first OASIS class vessel on behalf of Royal Caribbean International.Involved in the Formal Safety Assessments on bulk carriers that led to the development of SOLAS Ch. XII and IACS Unified Requirements and contributed to a U-turn by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) on the issue of mandatory double hulls for bulk carriers. Had overseeing and project management responsibilities for internal and collaborative R&D activities.Overseeing R&D projects on capability building in fire engineering analysis (Knowledge Transfer Partnership program with University of Strathclyde).
