As Chief Engineer and Head of the Engineering Department, I am responsible for all technical operations of the vessel including engineering, electrical, and mechanical divisions, enforcing adherence to policy requirements for all vessel engineering activities including planned maintenance, regimes and execution, troubleshooting / diagnostics, and energy efficiency management.◼️ Completed ‘mission impossible’ dry-docking ‘Maersk Virginia’ following the departure of the Chief Engineer assigned to project, including major retrofitting of new ballast water treatment system.◼️ Overcame major technical challenges during ‘Maersk Virginia’ sea trials, calmly directing crew in systematic evaluation and rectification of issues within 6-hours to complete trials as scheduled. ◼️ Resolved cause of vessel engine failure on approach to port in heavy marine traffic in restricted waters, enabling vessel to proceed to port with a mere 2-hr delay rather than the 72-hr wait for a service engineer.◼️ Successfully completed takeover of container vessel ‘Maersk Yukon’ according to planned schedule despite major challenges presented by mandatory crew quarantine during the Covid-19 pandemic, with detailed takeover plan subsequently adopted as fleet best practice standard. ◼️ Identified and drove rectification of major issues with a vessel’s Exhaust Gas Cleaning System (EGCS), evidencing equipment faults to persuade manufacturers to accept responsibility and bear costs for repairs, avoiding potential detentions & financial penalties for MARPOL violations. ◼️ Replaced convoluted technical data reporting process with user friendly Excel reporting tool, reducing reporting preparation from 2 hours to 5 minutes and virtually eradicating errors.
