I am an international leader in the study of nitrogenase assembly and biochemistry. My laboratory pursues three lines of research with the following goals: (1) to understand the biosynthesis of the iron-molybdenum cofactor (FeMo-co) of nitrogenase; (2) to improve biological H2 production by altering the catalytic properties of nitrogenase; and (3) to provide proof of concept of expressing active nitrogenase in eukaryotic organisms. My laboratory is located at the Centro de Biotecnología y Genómica de Plantas (CBGP) of Technical University of Madrid (UPM). Our background combines skills in molecular genetics and anaerobic biochemistry, along with a passion for multidisciplinary approaches to solve complex and, when possible, applied scientific problems.
