Environmental Specialist (Ohs Focal Point)
CurrentProvide technical support on environmental risk management (ERM) to World Bank (WB) projects across Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC). Assess projects’ potential environmental footprint while determining relevant environmental standards. Provide guidance and technical support to the governments (agencies) in preparing environmental and social (E&S) instruments. Contribute to further developing the WB Environmental and Social Framework (ESF) related guidance and technical support materials, such as guidelines, knowledge tools, or metrics. Led training activities on the WB’s safeguard policies and the ESF to governments and WB staff. Established and developed an Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Knowledge Platform to support clients. Conducted thorough assessments of projects to identify potential OHS risks, ensuring compliance with relevant national regulations and international standards. Led training sessions on occupational health and safety practices, safeguard policies, and the ESF for governments, WB staff, and other stakeholders. Provide expert advice to client and counterpart organizations on the preparation of environmental impact assessments, including regional, strategic, and cumulative assessments; environmental management frameworks and plans, including plans for monitoring, reporting, and evaluation; public consultation plans; and specific plans related to natural habitats conservation, natural resource management, pest management, forest management, dam safety, following national and WB compliance.Provide policy and strategic inputs to the ERM agenda across the LAC region. Seek and develop opportunities to improve and integrate sound environmental management and policies in WB operations, including improving environmental benefits and providing value-added service and the capacities of relevant local clients and other stakeholders.
