Responsible for managing the collection of health and safety KPI data for the Company Key Performance Indicator Scorecard. Presents the data to the Chief Maritime Officer on a monthly basis. Managing the continued development of Emergency Response and Contingency Plans for both the office and vessels. Oversees the planning and execution of Emergency Response Team exercises. Manages and serves as an active member of the Emergency Response Team. Conducts internal audits of the Safety Management System and Vessel Security Plans. Manage the development and revision of safety and security related manuals/documents within the Company Safety Management System. Reports directly to the maritime VPs and Executives on significant safety and security related issues within the SMS. Monitors non-conformity, accident, near miss, and risk assessment reports and develops corrective action plans with vessel personnel and the shore-side team. Monitors safety meeting reports from Company vessels and follows up on key issues with vessel and shore-side teams. Serves as instructor for approved in-house security specific STCW training courses. Acts as an alternate instructor for approved in-house STCW training courses. Serves as Deputy Company Security Officer (DCSO). Develops and maintains the Vessel/Ship Security Plans. Ensures the verification and approval of Ship Security Plans is carried by the U.S. Coast Guard and Classification Society. Conducts the Vessel Security Assessments for the fleet. Audits the vessels for compliance with the Vessel/Ship Security Plan. Ensures that any identified deficiencies or non-conformities identified by audits or inspections are promptly corrected. Manages the contracting of external security forces when necessary. Ensures that adequate training is provided for all personnel responsible for security. Serves as instructor for approved in-house security specific STCW training courses.

Responsible for assessing and advising on potential threats to ships, utilizing comprehensive security assessments and relevant information. Overseeing the execution of ship security assessments and ensuring the development, approval, implementation, and maintenance of ship security plans. Addressing deficiencies and aligning ship security plans with regulatory requirements through modifications as needed. Coordinating internal audits, reviews of security activities, and conducting verifications of ships by the Administration or recognized security organizations. Addressing and resolving deficiencies and non-conformities identified during audits and inspections. Facilitating effective communication and collaboration between ship security officers and relevant port facility security officers. Maintaining consistency between security and safety requirements, ensuring accurate reflection of ship-specific information in sister-ship or fleet security plans.

Responsible for interfacing with expedition vessels on safety, compliance, and security issues in support of the Company Safety Management System and Vessel/Ship Security Plans. Responsible for internally auditing company vessels and the cooperate office per ISM Code. Provide oversight, update, and enforce the company Safety Management System. Manage the company’s emergency response procedures and participate as an active member of the Emergency Response Team.

Responsible for monitoring the safe and efficient operation of each ship with regards to the safety and pollution prevention aspects. In particular, ensuring compliance with the company Safety Management System and ensuring that proper provision is made for each ship to be manned, equipped and maintained so that it is fit to operate in accordance with the SMS and with statutory requirements.
