In my family business i was 15 and my first sale i had to pitch a thermostat gasket to go with the thermostat for an sbc. That was my test with my father watching. If I could work the counter. I completed the upsale, wrote the ticket and I became a parts man. I have worked in a lot of arenas in the automotive aftermarket. And I have learned that sales are about knowing your customer and knowing who you want to respresent in his eyes. My father told me when I was new to the biz, if you make every person into a success story they become the most powerful marketing tool you could have. No need to advertise. Today I look back on my path and realize the market is a moving target. Finding a good fit gets harder but, I still like to create success stories in everything i do. The ones that matter will see your virtue and you will succeed. Dust yourself off and smile. No failures just learning opportunities and successes. And when you help people with your knowledge and experience, you both win.
