About Luke Chynoweth
Acting as the appointed technology manual and trouble-shooter for friends and family since I can remember, this ignited an interest for the industry. Spending time, mainly on official forums on my own initiative learning and understanding how to fix and set up basic computer, software and hardware issues to help others became an outside hobby of mine which I am now keen to progress with further. My entire career to date has orientated around providing service and getting people from point A to point B, putting them first and always doing more than the minimum to build positive relationships. Whether it be through providing exceptional customer service in getting the product to the consumer on time to developing children and adults on the next steps of their educational and sporting journeys. A combined 10 years of working in sport and educational settings, both voluntary and full time has allowed me to meet, collaborate with and help a range of different people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures make forward progress, which in turn provides me with huge satisfaction. Despite going through Undergraduate, Postgraduate degrees and achieving internationally recognised qualifications, I wouldn't classify my time as a student as an isolated period of my life. I'm a keen believer in continuous professional development and that we are always learning, therefore taking on the label of student more frequently than we realise or like to admit. Other achievements and experiences include academic writing awards, running in house CPD events and invitations to showcase my work to upcoming and aspiring candidates on internationally accredited courses.Outside of work you will find me swimming both short and long distance courses in and outdoors or watching live sport. Failing that, it is likely I will be reading the patch notes for the next upcoming Windows, IOS, or Xbox system updates or sorting out family icloud issues.

Luke Chynoweth work experience

Cover Supervisor/Physical Education Teacher
Initially employed as a Cover Supervisor and with a sports coaching background, my role was to supervise the work of classes set by their class teacher in line with school policy, managing the behaviour of pupils both in mainstream and alternative provision ensuring an effective learning environment. With the School being part of a Teaching Alliance and having an ethos of investing in their own staff, this meant that I was also able to train, gain my Postgraduate Certificate in Secondary Education with Qualified Teaching Status and subsequently offered a full time, permanent role upon completion of my training.I took on 3 PE and 1 Science timetable in the first 2 years to support long term staff absence. This involved liaising with different faculties when planning, then delivering and evaluating PE lessons to key stage 3 and 4 pupils in line with the curriculum. I also taught theoretical components of the Sports Leaders Award to year 10 students along with aspects of the BTEC sports programme to year 10 and 12 pupils.Taking a hands on approach towards the School's extra curricular programme, I ran after school clubs, officiated fixtures and weekend inter-school events such as area athletics to contribute to the success of the school also fulfilling wider responsibilities as a teacher.I spent a considerable amount of time supporting the alternate provision within the school site, working with and building rapport with pupils who struggled in mainstream and needed to 1 to 1 support with their learning.
Lead Goalkeeping Coach
As Lead Goalkeeping Coach I supported regionally selected talented girls aged 11 to 16, providing an enjoyable and developmental environment for them to thrive in.I Managed the goalkeeping trial process, selecting girls who met the criteria during planned trial sessions and who would excel within the Coaching Centre's environment. Those who were unsuccessful were given individualised and detailed feedback to support their ongoing development. Positive discussions with the Centre Manager after presenting rationale including enhancing training quality, modern research and backup in case of absence allowed me to exceed the normal accepted quota, accepting 3 per age group rather than just 2 in some instances.Selected goalkeepers would follow a self constructed syllabus using proficient IT skills that would align with the Centre's playing DNA and outfield syllabus maintaining a consistent theme throughout. The syllabus also factored in fixtures against other Regional Talent Centres. My role was to facilitate the goalkeeper's matchday experience, delivering their warm up, discussing match day objectives and providing feedback appropriately throughout. On occasions I have supported staff absence by managing a team rather than just the goalkeepers. I also lead the appraisal process. Underpinned by a personal development plan constructed by myself and underpinned by the goalkeepers performance at training, on game days and video footage, this informed conversations around progress and areas for development between the player, their parents, their grassroots coaches, Centre Manager and myself. To continue to provide for players throughout the difficulties of COVID-19, I used Microsoft teams to run goalkeeping exercise sessions and theory evenings. This was to develop the goalkeeper's tactical knowledge, improve their observation skills and promote confidence to present their observations to their peers and myself.
Head Football Coach
Initially starting as a volunteer coach with no experience, my role was to plan, lead and evaluate football coaching sessions, ensuring a safe, fun and structured learning environment for players aged under 5 up to 18. Within the first 2 years I was promoted to a paid Lead Coach, finishing my 9 year tenure as a Venue Head Coach of 1 of 3 Centres due to the need for multiple venues to facilitate substantial business growth. Throughout my years of service, the business grew from 1 day a week with around 40 children to 7 days a week with 400+ regularly attending different sessions including all inclusive grassroots, Advanced and Goalkeeping coaching with waiting lists introduced due to popularity. As the company grew, I continued to grow with it achieving internationally recognised, UEFA accredited qualifications to further develop myself but also add further value to Sport Bath. Feeling I could offer something extra, my upskilling and passion for goalkeeping lead to the introduction of specialised goalkeeping workshops for different age groups, adding a further unique selling point to the company with goalkeeping options in the local community very limited. With the company now employing an increased number of volunteers and paid coaches, creating and implementing a consistent and shared club coaching philosophy and culture was vital to success. As well as managing assistant and lead coaches, I was tasked to run a number of inhouse CPD events including theory based presentations and practical sessions to support the implementation of this.Duties also included planning and running the company's popular multi-sport half term and summer camps where numbers were consistently high, further underlining the value to the local community with all children welcome and not just those playing for the associated club.
Goalkeeping Coach
Upon completing the UEFA B Outfield License and to continue personal development, I took on the voluntary role of Goalkeeping Coach at Women's National League side Larkhall Athletic Women. Initially I began working with just the first choice and reserve goalkeeper whilst mentoring the current manager through their UEFA B Outfield License which was successfully achieved at the end of the season. Whilst studying for my UEFA B Goalkeeping License and engaging with a range of goalkeeping face to face and online CPD, my perspective on how working with goalkeepers changed significantly. I began by implementing an agreed periodisation training structure which was well received, allowing goalkeepers better structure to their training days and to better prepare them for weekly sessions. My focus also became on creating positive relationships with managers and players in order to lead whole team sessions and integrate the goalkeepers in accordingly, exposing them to more realistic practice and avoid isolating them as is so often the case. The matchday experienced I provided for the goalkeepers also developed to a more modern approach. Warm ups were designed together to allow a more individualised and appropriate type of preparation for matchdays. During games, agreed focusses were observed along with any other important pieces of feedback and logged to contribute to meaningful reflective discussions informing future practice. Use of own initiative to research and implement analytical video, presentation and notational software on matchdays further drove the development of a unique and impactful goalkeeping culture at the club. The dynamic and inclusive nature of the goalkeeping department which had now been created became even more apparent when goalkeepers from local women's teams would also train with us. Not only did this enhance the sessions and create a strong social environment, it also developed strong community links with local clubs and networking opportunities.
Learning Mentor
To gain further experience within educational settings, I began working as a Learning Mentor in a range of Primary, Secondary and Alternative Provision Schools (Listed Below). During my time in the role, I mentored Primary and Secondary SEN student learning, establishing professional working relationships with staff and students, acting as a positive role model. This secured me several longer term contracts at different schools and the chance to build up strong rapport with teachers, students and recruitment agency staff.A deeper understanding of how to facilitate a range of students based on their individual needs was developed, with the emphasis on trying to encourage student autonomy and collaborative learning to promote inclusivity and engage all students. I also supported class teachers and HLTAs by managing behaviour constructively, promoting self-control and independence as well as organising appropriate learning environment and resources, all skills which were transferable from my experience within coaching children.Other valuable experience gained during my time at Tradewind Recruitment included the effective use of ICT to support learning activities, develop students’ competence and independence as well as for legal administration. I also gained experience Invigilating GCSE exams at short notice to support staff shortages.Schools worked at: Broadlands Academy, Knowle DGE, New Fosseway School, Bristol Futures Academy, Bristol Gateway School, and Pathways Learning Centre.
