I have always loved engineering. As a child I would imagine different machines and processes that would solve problems I came across. I never quite knew how to make those ideas into a reality until I started learning SOLIDWORKS in high school. Ever since then, I have not stopped in my pursuit of 3D modeling. After teaching myself SOLIDWORKS, I moved on to learning Blender. Unbeknownst to me the two programs are completely different, with the former having technical functions such as surface modeling, functional fluid simulations, and engineering drawings and the latter being more creative with vertex modeling, sculpting, material settings, and lighting. Although many new challenges awaited me, I took them on with great enthusiasm. I now have an excellent understanding of both programs and am constantly trying to increase my knowledge.Already, I have started using my skills to help others. On my high school’s FIRST Robotics Challenge team I created custom parts for our competition robot using SOLIDWORKS. I worked with programmers and other designers to ensure that the parts were exactly what was needed, which required frequent communication and meeting deadlines. After I graduated, I became a Research Assistant with the Dickey Group at NCSU. Now I create custom figures for undergraduate students, graduate students, and postdoctoral researchers for papers, presentations, proposals, and any other document they need.
