DiRECT – Led GR’s involvement in collaboration with the Imperial College Centre for Engagement and Simulation Science (ICCESS) on this digital examination simulator for the training of clinicians. Personally undertook extensive redesign of existing 6-dof haptic robot, writing a set of macros in Solidworks to perform analysis of kinematics/workspace trade-off, in turn substantially re-designing kinematics of device to suit task and enclosure constraints. Undertook mechanical design of new end effector. Wrote PC-based driver in C++ to support new kinematics and add functionality such as trajectory control. Assumed de-facto project manager role, coordinating work of a product designer, prosthetic modeller, 3D artist, and medical simulation researchers at Imperial.SimCath – A project with Imperial College to create a novel cardiac catheterization haptic simulator intended to reduce the size, complexity and cost over existing devices. Responsible for all mechanical design of project, based on an idea proposed by Imperial researchers. Other tasks have included thermal modelling of DC motors, including ODE parameter estimation using optimisation in Matlab, mechatronic design and FEA analysis of torsional stiffness of columns for GR’s SimuTouch haptic platform, and writing kinematics drivers for GR’s haptic platforms.

Initiated and worked on diverse projects including a robot bin full sensor, novel separation technologies, and new floor tool concepts, undertaking a range of tasks including mechanical design and fabrication, analysis, programming and testing.

Force-feedback robot hand controller: Began development from scratch of a new, wearable force feedback controller for Shadow’s robot hand. Successfully completed design and fabrication of mechanical prototype for one finger and implemented first version of force feedback control, allowing operator to control robot finger and experience feedback.
