Post-doctoral Research Associate in the School of Earth SciencesAdvised by Prof Juliet Biggs.- Produced a new probabilistic seismic hazard assessment (PSHA) for Malawi.- Discovered a new tectonic plate in southern africa.- Developed active fault maps and seismic source models for Malawi, Zambia and Uganda.Worked on four projects:1) PREPARE (enhancing PREParedness for east African countries through seismic Resilience Engineering) > Led continental strain and fault mapping work packages, by pioneering new methods to map faults in the region, establishing a new GPS network in Malawi and discovering over 100 active faults in Malawi. > Organised seismic hazard workshop in 2018 and seismic risk workshop in 2019 in Malawi attended by over 200 people. > Coordinated with engineers, national and local government officials, and the World Bank.2) Safer PREPAREDHelped to secure £800k of follow up funding to PREPARE to investigate seismic resilience of schools in Malawi in response to the UN's Safer Schools Programme. > Callibrated seismic source model for Malawi by measuring fault slip rates and using new GPS data. > Facilitated remote fieldwork in Malawi during the Covid Pandemic. > Produced a series of online workshops to disseminate results during the Covid Pandemic. > Secured collaboration with the Global Earthquake Model (GEM) and ensured that new fault maps from PREPARE were embedded within the GEM Global Active Fault Database.3) PREPARE_ImpactAwarded a £35k EPSRC Impact Accellerator Award with £20k in-kind contribution from Arup to perform scenario seismic hazard assessment for the Zomba Fault, Malawi.Secured £11k of follow on funding from the NERC cosmogenic isotope analysis facility to contrain the slip rate of the Zomba Fault.4) PREPARE_UgandaConducted a preliminary study and field campaign in Uganda.Established a new collaboration with the Department of Geological Survey and Mines.

Research Fellow in the Institute of Geophysics and Tectonics.Advised by Dr Laura Gregory.Directed research for a team of 6 during a £50k NERC urgency grant to stedy co- and post-seismic deformation during the 2016 central Italy earthquake sequence.Assissted with the coordination of the scientific response to the earthquake sequence alongside the INGV, local civil protection teams and other international scientific teams to produce an earthquake rupture map.Led the collection of the first pre- and post-earthquake terrestrial lidar images of an earthquake surface rupture.Coordinated the ground field mapping campaign for the UK COMET team of researchers (providing national capability science to the UK for mapping earthquake deformation).Presented the findings at European Geoscience Conference and American Geophysical Union Fall Meeting.

PhD Title: Fault Interaction and continental extension in the central Apennines, Italy.Based in the Institute for Risk and Disaster Reduction (IRDR) at UCL, part of the department of Earth Sciences.Supervised by Prof Joanna Faure Walker (IRDR), Prof Gerald Roberts (Birkbeck College, University of London), Ken McCaffrey (Durham University) and Prof Peter Sammonds (IRDR).
