A Research and Development Scientist specialising in the development of polymer materials and processes. I have experience of working on a wide variety of industrially funded and InnovateUK funded projects with large multinational companies and also small startups. Most recently I have been involved in the development of a novel range of diblock copolymers with applications such as compatibilization of mixed plastics waste and surface modification of polymers. Working closely with our team of chemists these diblocks have been developed from a concept proven through a PhD project to a startup company that is now rapidly finding commercial applications for the technology.I also have experience working with another startup company on a variety of projects including modification of injection moulding processes and recycling of multilayer packaging through separation and sorting.I have over 30 years of hands on practical experience of the polymer compounding industry. 22 years of this was with a large multinational company specialising in mineral fillers and fire retardants. Here I gained experience of knowledgeably optimising material properties and processing characteristics of polymer compounds for wide ranging applications. As a Prince2 (Foundation level) qualified project manager I have utilised my skills to Project Manage and participate in several Innovate UK funded R&D projectsMy confidence in using my knowledge to present my work has been proven through my active participation in international conferences, presentations to industrial partners at all levels, and through publication of technical documents both for industrial use and in international scientific journals. Through my experience of industrial innovation combined and my close contacts with highly rated academic institutions I have a developed set of versatile skills ideal for the generation, development and understanding of innovative materials solutions.
