My name is Luke Pollard, and I am an IT professional that has been working in the sector in a professional capacity since 2013. Having always had a passion for technology, I left school and immediately started working in various different roles that has enabled me to gain valuable experience and progress my career.Starting in 2013 I held responsibility for the implementation and management of a circa £0.7 million infrastructure for a newly built college in Plymouth, driving an intensive programme with contractors and key personnel to ensure delivery of the infrastructure ready for the school to open. During this role I also certified in ITIL foundation to expand my knowledge of IT service delivery and operations.After two years, my career moved to an IT business providing support services for small to large businesses across the entire Southwest region. As a second line technician, I would routinely support and maintain various customers throughout the business, working with a significant range of technology from aging legacy infrastructure through to modern large scale, highly automated, and cloud driven infrastructures. During my time I gained a large wealth of skills and experience working with multiple complex technologies as well as gaining valuable experience working throughout datacentres, being a disaster recovery centre, and working as an on-call engineer. In addition to the technical experience, I spent a vast amount of time building upon my interpersonal skills working with colleagues, customers, and contractors both through telephone and remote support, as well as on-site meetings and visits.After working in the private sector, I moved back into public sector working at a primary school to transform their entire network from a non-functioning environment into a modern, safe, and secure facility for staff and students. Shortly after, the schools amalgamated with a number of other schools to form a Multi Academy Trust, rapidly expanding from one school, to three, to eight over the course of a few years. Since the inception of the Trust, my role very quickly expanded to provide IT support, management, and expertise to the entire Trust.Move forward 6 years and I am now the IT Operations Manager for the Trust, leading a programme of modernisation to centralise our infrastructure and provide a secure, well-managed, cloud driven solution.
