Events And Marketing Support

Loughborough

I was employed as an undergraduate intern at Cenex as part of my degree, with a primary focus on the Cenex-LCV (www.cenex-lcv.co.uk) event and a secondary emphasis to support Cenex’ other marketing and business development activities. Cenex had not retained a dedicated marketing or event manager since 2011 so I had the opportunity to grow rapidly in these roles, demonstrating good organisational skills, proving an ability to work independently, presenting plans with supporting evidence and evaluation to inspire confidence, and reporting succinctly on progress. I was tasked to help deliver all aspects of the LCV event, as well as developing and implementing a new sales and marketing plan capable of delivering challenging targets. Specifically, LCV2014 achieved:• Increased visitor numbers by 25% to 2451 attendees.• Exhibitor numbers grew 15% to 181 organisations• Total number of organisations attending increased 18% to 952 • Leading a team to successfully allocate 99.2% of exhibition space• 327% increase in the value of sponsorship sold through the creation of tailored packages • Increased website views by 23% to 23,699 and 4% increase in visit duration (average of 4mins 15secs)• Increased press releases/mailshots to 21 (versus 16 for 2013). • Financial performance increased by 20% (initial target of a 10%)I was also responsible for the management of a website refresh for the company, development of a new CRM system, increasing event presence across the industry and working with suppliers to increase the success of marketing efforts. I also supported business development through bid-writing and the delivery of the Plugged-In Midlands programme.I developed the commercial awareness needed to succeed in the events industry but this would not have been possible without the dedicated support of Cenex and their suppliers.

Sep 2012 - May 2013

Barman

Kings Head Pub

Upper Beeding, West Sussex

My work in a local pub is where I learnt to deal with pressure and the importance of customer satisfaction. I worked mainly at weekends which were the busiest time for trading. In good weather the pub was filled with customers and I found that dealing with those who were not satisfied or those that wanted to complain about the wait time came naturally to me and I learnt to diffuse a situation to ensure they left happy.I was also often asked to mentor new members of staff so I learnt a lot about communicating effectively so that they learnt quickly and fitted in well with the team.

Sep 2010 - Sep 2012

Event Co-Ordinator (Producer)

Steyning Stages

Steyning

My voluntary role as a producer for Steyning Stages was where I learnt the skills needed to be a successful event manager. It was an amateur dramatics society that I set up and recruited a director, musical director and choreographer to produce the first community pantomime for my town. I developed my administration skills, particularly when accounting for over £8000 worth of funds and keeping in contact with the cast and crew members. I learnt to work with adults at a young age in a professional capacity, especially when chairing the meetings and briefing the team and cast at rehearsals. I also developed my work in PR, organising several press releases and managing the marketing of the event.

Aug 2010 - Jan 2011

Event Co-Ordinator (Youth And Media)

Steyning Live Lounge

Steyning

I also volunteered as one of the key organisers at an outdoor music festival. There were five of us on the team and I headed up the youth participation and media coverage. The festival was a free outdoor event with two stages showcasing the local talent in Steyning and attracted over 2500 people from the local community. As the other four key organisers were adults I managed to bridge the gap between the event and the local youth, creating an initiative to encourage the younger acts to develop their performance skills before going on stage at the actual event. It was a fantastic day but exhausting and I learnt the importance of communicating as well as the aftermath of an event. Most people presume that an event finishes at the end of the day, but the logistics of the take down can often be the hardest part, especially when the adrenaline fuelled energy is starting to fade.
