About Lydia Samuel

Waltham Petcare Science Institute is the science centre for Mars Petcare U.K. Our research teams work across multiple disciplines covering 9 research programs across our ecosystem; healthy weight, skin health, oral health, GI health, healthy aging, emotional health and wellbeing, feeding performance and palatability, sustainability and human animal interactions. The knowledge we generate drives our purpose of creating a better world for pets!At Waltham I work currently as a Unit Operations Manager. I manage and am accountable for running 3 animal units and line managing their teams. I ensure the units are running to maximum efficiency, adhering to welfare, quality and safety standards alongside executing our research trials. I provide input into study design whilst working in partnership with the research teams.Key competencies: - Drive for Results - Developing Direct Reports - Driving Engagement - Organisational Savvy - Approachability - Plans and Aligns - Instills Trust Having achieved a final grade of a first class honours, during my time at University for BSc hons Zoology, I proved myself a focussed, driven, self-motivated individual who can offer reliability and consistency of performance.Having all coursework in the 90th percentile, I was presented 2 Deans awards for being in the top 10% of students academically and upon graduating was awarded the top bioscience student as accredited by the Royal Society of Biology; proving my strong work ethic and desire to learn.I completed my thesis at the University of Southeast Norway where I performed a canine behavioural study around; the innate ability of canines to detect predator scents. This research has since been published in animal cognition.
