The Strengthening Protections for Social Security Beneficiaries Act of 2018 directs Equip for Equality to conduct performance reviews of Representative Payees to determine if Beneficiary funds are properly safeguarded and their needs are met. The Act also directs Equip for Equality to conduct outreach and educational trainings to ensure that Payees understand their duties and responsibilities.

I provided legal advocacy to people with disabilities who were victims of sexual abuse and trafficking, as well as outreach to prevent abuse and neglect.During the fellowship I:• Successfully removed a guardian who was trafficking her daughter with Down Syndrome and fully restored the client’s legal rights to make her own life decisions• Successfully advocated for a client with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder to have her service animal with her in criminal court while she testifies against the perpetrator• Successfully negotiated a decrease in higher education debt for a client with PTSD who was charged an unlawful fee for a reasonable housing accommodation following a sexual assault• Successfully negotiated the replacement of a Braille device that a facility misplaced so that the client could communicate her needs• Provided 31 outreach trainings to 865 people across the country on human trafficking of people with disabilities• Helped launch the National Human Trafficking & Disability Working Group

I conducted two depositions in civil commitment cases.I drafted a motion for a "Franks" hearing with accompanying affidavits. I also drafted memoranda of law regarding Franks motions.

I managed the JICL Cases and Controversies authors. I provided guidance on topic selection, helped the authors maintain deadlines, provided feedback on content, and assisted with overall quality of publications.

I investigated claimants to assist with the City of Chicago’s acknowledgment and redress efforts for acts of torture committed by former Chicago Police Commander Jon Burge and his subordinates.

I conducted client interviews to assist with direct legal representation regarding allegations of abuse and/or neglect in healthcare facilities and drafted client letters advising clients of their rights while receiving health services in Illinois.I also drafted office memoranda regarding resident rights and facility obligations under relevant Illinois law, and I analyzed Illinois Department of Public Health, Office of Inspector General reports to enhance the performance of state investigations.

I drafted pleadings and advocated for clients in domestic relations and parentage court as a 711 Law Student.I conducted initial client interviews and client meetings.I negotiated with opposing counsel to schedule conferences and possible settlements.

In general, I worked on sexual abuse and sex trafficking cases. I also drafted Administrative pleadings and supporting briefs to the Illinois Department of Labor, helped successfully appeal an unemployment benefits case, and drafted a sealing petition.

I wrote a variety of articles about music and the performing arts.

I worked on social media fronts (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, Google+, etc.). I edited all content for the website and participated in redesigning/re-imagining the same website. I also worked with various marketing and PR campaigns.

I taught high school students how to play the front ensemble instruments (marimba, vibraphone, xylophone, cymbals, keyboard, timpani, etc.). I specialized in keyboard playing and four mallet technique. While my primary job was to teach how to play the marching band show music, I found it very important to incorporate some basic music theory into our daily routine and exercises.

I made visits to local businesses and made phone calls to national businesses encouraging them to advertise with Biola University's student newspaper.

I was part of the Marketing and Communications department of SMU. On a weekly basis, I was part of brainstorming marketing campaigns and discussions on how to best reach our audience. I edited all written material produced by SMU in print and online. I also maintained the website and all of the social media outlets including Twitter, Facebook and a blog I created.

I helped the Public Relations manager with tasks such as employee emails, creating the Press Book, general book editing, photo editing, PR campaigns and much more.

I was on a team of four ambitious Biola students who where commissioned to serve as citizen journalists and public relation liaisons to the outside media in order to communicate the stories of Biola to the external community. I worked on press releases, pitches, stories, PR campaigns, the press book and CNN iReport videos.
