About Lydia Sharp

I am a legal aid attorney in Chicago at Equip for Equality, and I manage the Representative Payee Oversight Program. We ensure people with disabilities who have representative payees managing their SSA funds have their needs met and are not being exploited. Prior to this position, I had a legal fellowship at Equip for Equality advocating for people with disabilities to be free from sexual abuse and human trafficking. I am interested in broad access to justice issues including increasing access to justice through technology and community-based legal clinics. While in law school, I gained experience in a variety of areas of law within the Chicago legal aid community including disability rights, advocacy for sex abuse victims, family law, and criminal law. Prior to law school, I wrote for a magazine and managed social media marketing strategies for a few nonprofit organizations.I still enjoy blogging and freelance writing in my spare time.
