I was delighted to be part of SOFEA's Board of Trustees at an exciting time in SOFEA's development and to Chair their Finance & General Purposes Committee. SOFEA, a charity based in South Oxfordshire, is committed to supporting people disadvantaged in the labour market to enter or return to work; to help at risk individuals to reengage and to assist local employers to recruit the right workers cost effectively. It delivers these aims through a combination of academic, practical and therapeutic support. SOFEA's social enterprise partnership with FareShare is set up to be doubly effective as it provides the main context for delivering practical work skills to its target clients and enables food waste reduction by redistributing food to multiple charitable agencies.

I was appointed with remit to grow market share and improve relationships with internal businesses across Capita Group for this specialist network, infrastructure services and IT equipment solutions provider. I had full P&L responsibility for £multi-million business unit. I directed multi-disciplinary team of 80 – 100 people, covering client relationship management, business development, service delivery, commercial and contract management, project and programme delivery, technical advice and assurance, financial management, business change, and client support services.

I was put forward by Group COO for this leadership role within CCM, a several hundred £million operation providing business process and customer management solutions across multiple industries, as well as for non-profit sector. Within my remit, I succeeded in driving improved revenues and margins, increasing exposure in new markets, widening expertise, and strengthening offerings through collaboration with specialist partners.

I was brought back in to lead the transformation of IT Services consulting business. I boosted margins and increased our position in value chain; rationalised dysfunctional systems and reorganised 180 staff into specialist practices providing pre-project and project support to both internal and external customers. I went on to undertake a series of client turnaround and transformation leadership roles, including major contract wins.

I was brought in to develop government-sector business for this small consulting firm specialising in interview-based competitor research with £multi-million turnover and 30 – 40 staff, comprising senior advisors, graduate researchers and support staff. My role rapidly evolved to both working on client engagements and operational leadership. I undertook a wholesale review and improvement of operational systems and processes. I facilitated a successful due diligence period and planned sale to a major PLC.

I joined as Senior Consultant and was successively promoted to Director level. I led several consulting practices, dealing principally with central government clients, as the overall business grew from ~50 to 150 consultants with £multi-million increase in turnover.I ran all aspects of the Technology and Financial Management practices: managed and developed multi-disciplinary teams; identified opportunities, directed sales process, led assignment delivery and customer outcomes, recruited and trained new recruits. I also had responsibility for business-wide quality assurance. Additionally, I spearheaded partnership development for Consulting.
