Since qualifying as a Registered Mental Nurse in 1989, I have had a varied career. Working in differing posts to enable a greater understanding as to how organisations and care settings operate which in turn has provided me with knowledge, skills and experience that allows me to work using a more holistic approach when working with individuals and families living with dementia. I am very passionate about working in the field of dementia and want to make a positive difference. I would describe myself as enthusiastic, motivated, innovative, and a pro-active member of staff who is honest, fair and reliable. I can work alone, on my own initiative, using well-developed leadership skills, or as a valuable team member. I am very focused and determined in ensuring that best practice is carried out and that services are appropriate to the needs of service users. I am very much a people person with excellent communication and interpersonal skills and a good sense of humour, relating well to other staff members as well as the ability to build a rapport with individuals and carers. I am open-minded and always keen to learn and to pursue further challenges to help promote knowledge and understanding of dementia. My ambition is to make a difference in the lives of those living with dementia along with their families, by being pro-active in improving the services that are available. Ensuring support is appropriate to meet the ever-changing needs of those living with dementia and that a greater understanding of dementia and the impact on individuals and families is recognised. Ultimately my goal is to help improve the quality of life for those living with dementia and their families and I strongly believe this can be achieved through strong leadership and education.
