Dr. Lynn Shaw has her Ph.D. in Educational Policy from Claremont University.She is an expert on career technical education, apprenticeship, and women in non traditional careers. She has been invited to the White House, worked for the Department of Labor as a subject matter expert and has won multiple awards for her advocacy on behalf of youth, women and community college students.Dr Shaw has had an unusual work history. She has worked as a miner, steelworker, longshore worker and journeylevel electrician. She was the first woman to teach in the electrical apprenticeship program in Los Angeles. She worked at Long Beach City College and has served in multiple roles including Electrical Technology Professor, Dean, Student Learning Outcomes Coordinator, Faculty Union President, and Faculty Professional Development Coordinator. She also has served as the Co-Chair of the California Community College Los Angeles and Orange County Regional Consortium and co-chair of the Taskforce on Workforce, Job Creation and a Strong Economy. She worked at the state level in the California Community College Chancellor’s Office as an advocate for Career and Technical Education. In the 1980’s when Dr Shaw was frustrated with being the only woman on construction job sites she founded WINTER, Women In Non Traditional Employment Roles, a non-profit organization. WINTER began simply, as an informal support network for women working in the skilled trades and other women who wanted these high paying careers. WINTER now has a national reputation and educates and trains over a thousand women every year, preparing them for high wage high skill non-traditional careers. WINTER also operated the Rosie the Riveter Charter High School.
