Helped manage Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) litigation and administrative appeals cases, which required in-depth analysis of productions, applicable exemptions, and withholdings, as well as constant communications with clients and federal counsel. Assisted in drafting amicus briefs for federal cases, wrote comment letters for administrative rulemakings, and researched a variety of environmental legal issues for student projects. Examined procurement and public utilities laws in Massachusetts and other New England States and became familiar with Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities proceedings in particular.

Worked on issues of climate change and securities fraud. Developed investigation on illegal dumping of hazardous materials. Drafted complaints and subpoenas, wrote legal memoranda and performed legal research, trained and supervised contract attorneys, analyzed privilege logs, aided in deposition preparation, and reviewed production documents through Rational Review and Relativity.

Helped draft Kansas Open Records Act (KORA) letter. Wrote memoranda on: ratepayer standing, ripeness, and nondelegation issues in carbon trading program case; designation of ongoing violations to satisfy the Clean Water Act (CWA) citizen suit standard in confined animal feeding operation (CAFO) case; right to appeal risk-based disposal approvals under the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA); exceptions to mandatory disclosure under KORA with regards to financial projections, methodological assumptions, and studies created and possessed by coal plant; and the definition of “modification” under New Source Review (NSR) and New Source Performance Standards (NSPS).

Examined provisions of the Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act (SMCRA), with specific attention to section 506(c). Drafted motions and responsive briefs on proper venue, and supplementation of the administrative record and extra-record review. Performed document review of FOIA response. Led meetings with client, legal team, and outside counsel. Wrote memoranda on: supplementation of the administration record and extra-record review; establishing associational and organizational standing; proper venue; weighing of public and private interest factors for transfer; and whether agency letter constituted final agency action, an adjudication or rulemaking, and a legislative or interpretive rulemaking.

Reviewed and analyzed provisions in Title II of the Clean Air Act (CAA). Revised and edited complaints against, and consent agreement and final orders (CAFOs) with vehicle manufacturers and distributers. Wrote memorandum on disgorgement. Performed document review for case against South Korean car companies. Attended Air Enforcement Division meetings.

Analyzed provisions of the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) and Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA). Developed administrative enforcement cases by determining violations and penalties. Wrote memoranda and Show Cause Letters. Planned and led legal team meetings with supervising attorneys and environmental scientists. Conducted legal research concerning the respective roles and responsibilities of the U.S. EPA and Department of Defense at Formerly Used Defense Sites (FUDS) on the National Priorities List (NPL).

Founding member of MSEC—an independent, student-run statewide network composed of both environmental organizations and individuals. Co-created MSEC’s principles, charter and constitution. Helped create and implement Show Me Sustainability Campaign to educate students about environmental positions of political candidates in Missouri and the United States. Facilitated meetings, took minutes for meetings, kept an updated membership list, aided in publication of MSEC’s newsletter (The MSEC Bulletin), and co-created and updated website.

Worked on Green Action’s campus sustainability projects. Helped promote Proposition A Campaign (2010) to finance public transportation metro system in St. Louis metropolitan area by spreading campus awareness through posting flyers and educating students. Facilitated meetings, took minutes for meetings, kept an updated membership list, and sent e-mail updates.

Managed and planned National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit issuance case for coal-fired power plant in Missouri. Developed and directed legal and scientific research on estimated downstream heavy metal concentrations and thermal sensitivity of sturgeon species, which were labeled endangered and threatened under the Endangered Species Act by the Fish and Wildlife Service. Built relationships and was responsible for continuation of communication with clients through e-mails and direct meetings. Led meetings with clients and legal team, which consisted of an advising attorney, second-year law school student, and clinic engineer, by creating meeting schedules and directing discussion.

Familiar with histology, small animal surgery, and animal care and training. Aided in physical therapy for rats on bikes and treadmill. Most work focused on performing histology on spinal cord tissue. Learned how to slice tissue on a cryostat and how to stain the tissue for cell bodies and myelinated axons with Nissl-Myelin stains. Performed immunohistochemistry in order to visualize serotonin localization.
