Hispanic & Ell Academic Outreach Coordinator
CurrentWelcome new families to the building, providing ongoing orientation programs to support the transition to the American School system for our Hispanic and International students. Implement programming and workshops for the student/parent community on Financial Aid, Scholarships, and College Admissions. Assist and provide guidance for students and parents in understanding Financial Aid, Scholarship packages and college/career exploration.Collaborate with Administrators, Community, and teachers to establish appropriate support for the population of students in their success through Middle School and High School. Provide translations of documents for the Middle School & High School parent community. Establish a mentorship program for ELL’s at both Middle/High Schools. Coordinate procedures and training for mentors in preparation to foster strong relationships and provide support to mentee students.Meet with parents and students on an individual basis starting from 6th grade through 12th, working to establish a culture in which college is in the future, by educating both students and parents regarding the process early.Lead, create, and/or facilitate workshops that support parental involvement and student success. Assist students in locating and enrolling in skill development courses or work experiences outside of school (e.g. ESL classes, computer training, SAT prep) for the purpose of promoting student achievement. Confer with teachers, parents, and/or appropriate community agency personnel (e.g. Social Services, health department, etc.) for the purpose of assisting in evaluation of students' progress and/or making appropriate referral. Create student focus groups that meet regularly to address the specific needs of students, such as the newly arrived students to the country, students who are rejoining families, or students in need of mentoring.
