I am an accomplished high school counselor practicing in a nontraditional setting for over 12 years. I am passionate about serving, advocating and supporting "at-promise" youth so they may reach their personal potential in school and in life. I am proud of the thousands of students and families I have served through my tenure. There are no words to describe the times when students have come to me and said if it were not for you, I would never have made it to graduation. Even better is when they come back as independent adults and share their stories of success after high school. I just recently ran into a student who graduated a few years ago and he proudly reported that his photos have made it into Vogue. This work can be challenging, but it is those moments that make it all worth it. My approach to my craft is as follows:*Focusing on the individual and taking time to validate their life's experience so we can move from the pain and into the possible. Always maintaining a positive regard for my students. *Staying abreast of trends (social, career, academic) that effect the populations I serve. *Creating opportunities for students to thrive now and into the future. Focus on experiential learning and getting them out of the school building to see and feel the adult world they are about to enter.*Dedication to professional learning and commitment to my professions standards. I have been the lead in my department and have successfully earned the American School Counselors Association (ASCA) Designation of RAMP (Recognized ASCA Model Program) in counseling for 3 consecutive application cycles. One of only a handful of nontraditional schools who have earned this national designation. *Utilizing my previous experience as a Certified Public Accountant, I rely heavily on data to guide my interventions. In addition, I utilize my business acumen from having operated a general contracting company with my husband for over 20 years.
