In this volunteer position I was on a panel of the Institutional Review Board tasked with reviewing research projects submitted for approval. I reviewed projects with a focus on the protection of human subjects and discussed questions with the full panel.

In this position I am responsible for directly overseeing evaluations related to two DCFS programs (SASS, a statewide child mental health crisis program, and specialized foster care). In this capacity, I am responsible for project management (including interactions with service providers and state agency reps; reporting; help desk support; and problem-solving). I also train providers on how to use the CSPI (Childhood Severity of Psychiatric Illness) assessment tool and conduct annual re-certification. In addition to these responsibilities, I am also in charge of data entry operations, managing the resources needed to make sure all data entry goes as smoothly as possible. And I coordinate our program's monthly meeting, providing opportunities for MHSPP staff to learn about current research and issues that may affect our work.

In August 2012, I completed my voluntary service with the Northwestern University Staff Advisory Council (NUSAC). In my six years on NUSAC, I was the chair (2 years), responsible for setting NUSAC's agenda and leading the group. I was also treasurer (2 years) and Communications Committee chair (1 year). NUSAC advises the university president and senior administrators on staff issues, advocate for staff concerns, and provide information to staff to help make the university environment one of the best to work in.

In this volunteer position, I help The Employment Project program participants in their job search, including helping with resumes, cover letters, online job searches and mock interviewing.

Coordinated operations in group homes for adults with mental illness, including budgeting, meal planning, physical plant maintenance and housecleaning; supervised staff; handled a caseload of clients.
