Research focused on Nitrogen Fluorescence at varying atmospheric pressureso Investigated the effects of Alpha radiation on a Nitrogen atmosphere Gained experience with standard laboratory equipment and electrical control systems by working independently in a laboratory setting Remotely operated equipment and electrical control system with Labview software o Some independent study in Labview programming Used Labview to monitory temperature and pressure instrumentation Used technical knowledge of to correctly position the test article o This led directly to collection, processing and analysis of new data Monitored and collected data on temperature, pressure, and fluorescence Experience in troubleshooting instrumentation including:o Solenoid valves, thermocouples, pressure transducers, electrical systems and computer interface Independent judgment used to adjust data acquisition o Refitting the vacuum chamber with “black-out” cloth o Allowed data to be taken with the room lights on Data could be obtained more quickly and comfortably with no loss of accuracy Developed procedures for the operations, troubleshooting, testing, and maintenance of a vacuum chamber and its control system o Changes improved the safety and efficiency of the experiment Followed standard written procedures closely Performed analysis on the data including standard deviation and trend analysis Adjusted data against background (not excited) fluorescence data then graphed Processed, reviewed, and graphed data with Excelo Compared results against previous research from other universities Prepared written and oral reports and briefs on data, analysis, and results to facultyo Will be the basis for work by future students
