Investigating financial crime sets me on fire. Of course, this is not literal, but I've always been interested in criminals. Call me morbid or “odd,” though it runs in my family. Just ask my papa who was an FBI agent. At first, I thought I would go into forensic psychology which I spent the time getting my associate's degree in. However, I made a pivot when I began working in finance and got involved in a fraud case. Growing up in poverty, I saw how frequently genuinely hard workers are taken advantage of financially and how they are scammed out of the majority of what little savings they have. Big companies do this without thought too, such as Enron whose actions impacted all stakeholders in detrimental ways. Between thinking about resolutions and working with clients, I unwind by reading anything I can get my hands on. Fantasy, non-fiction, historical fiction, gothic mysteries, you name it. Reading has been a source of joy for me from the moment I knew how to string words together. I love to laugh and experience life while sharing memories and knowledge with others. Moving through life listening to a variety of music, down to gems like Hey Ya!, doing word searches I found a love for through my nana, going to performances, walking through museums in awe, and taking on home DIY projects; I make sure to nurture my curiosity every chance I get.
