I was crowned king after I joined forces with Thorfinn and defeated Duncan and his nephew Moddan. It was a memorable day that victory; I remember it like it was yesterday, August 14, 1040. I was a young lad, 35, those were the glory days, after all the hardship and the death of my father and grandfather. It was peaceful after that, for 17 years my rule went uninterrupted and unquestioned by my people. The only time a conundrum happened was at 1045 when Duncan I's supporters decided they were going to rebel and dethrone me, and I can confirm that it was unsuccessful indeed. I wished to take a stress-free holiday with my wife, which I managed, but in the meantime, Duncan's nephew, Malcolm Macducan was in talks with the English lords that he was best to take my place, that brat! I returned as Malcolm's demands got put into action and at 1057 he, accompanied by Siward, Earl of Northumbria led an army into the North of Scotland, we all fought valiantly, and with great pride, alas the big battle was at Dunsinnan 3,000 of my brave men fell, while the enemy only lost 1,500. I also lost many of my dear friends during the war Pope Leo IX and the bishop of St. Andrew, Maelduin MacGille-Ordain, who chose to do nothing to help. The death of Thorfinn devasted me and left me in pieces, I had lost an important ally, but most importantly a friend who helped me redeem this position of royalty. These times were the hardest.
