Mack Ikeru, M.Ed. Email and Phone Number
As an emerging Instructional Designer, I am dedicated to creating impactful learning experiences that solve real-world problems. With my foundation in the Learning Sciences and my adept project management skills, I craft learning experiences that are engaging, accessible, and results-driven.My Instructional Design PhilosophyEffective learning experiences should be learner-centered, asset-based, and rooted in real-world application. To achieve this, I adopt a relational approach to the instructional design projects that I manage. Understanding the relationships that exist between learners and their environments is essential for setting and achieving actionable performance goals. By building collaborative relationships with stakeholders, subject matter experts, and learners, I design learning experiences that leverage learners’ resources to achieve measurable results. My JourneyMy journey into instructional design began with my own passion for learning and a deep fascination with how people learn and grow, leading me to pursue a B.A. in Education, Communities, and Organizations from the University of Washington (UW). After graduating, I took a gap year, volunteering as a learning researcher to investigate and design equitable modalities for diverse and underserved communities to learn STEM. I then immersed myself in the world of the Learning Sciences, pursuing an M.Ed. in Learning Sciences and Human Development from UW. As a graduate student, I comprehensively redesigned an undergraduate course on theories of learning using practical learning objectives that aligned with students’ lived endeavors. Adopting a collaborative, project-oriented approach, I crafted resources, assignments, and assessments based on authentic performance scenarios. I have seen a 36% improvement in learner evaluations over two years, using ongoing evaluations and assessments to iteratively refine the course. I have also optimized learning assessments, improving grade fidelity while reducing grading time by 70%. Since obtaining my M.Ed. in 2023, I have extensively prepared to transition into instructional design. I have developed my technical abilities in eLearning development, gained proficiency with industry standard tools, and created an instructional design portfolio to showcase my skills. I am confident that my unique blend of academic rigor, practical experience, and technical expertise will be a distinctive asset to the instructional design space, and I am eager to develop strategic learning solutions that help organizations thrive.
